Hyaff® - based biopolymer adjunct for bone grafting
|
The ever increasing reliability of regenerative medicine and its clinical availability represents a considerable change in the surgical treatment of tissue defects. Hyaloss™matrix contributes to the improvement of tissue repair processes creating an ideal milieu that fosters faster wound healing and restoration.
Hyaloss™matrix is entirely composed of Hyaff®, a hyaluronan-based biopolymer. Following successful outcomes in musculo-skeletal tissue engineering, Hyaff® is now used as both a scaffold and a guide for neo-forming tissues as well as a delivery vehicle for cells and growth factors.
Hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix is involved in morphogenesis, cell division, cell differentiation and as many studies report, in angiogenesis. Therefore, the use of Hyaloss™matrix as adjunct in autologous or allogenic bone grafting improves graft handling and application inside the defect. Moreover, Hyaloss™matrix, which releases hyaluronic acid that is known to have bacteriostatic properties, contributes to bacterial contamination control at the wound site.
Hyaloss™matrix mixed with a grafting material (fresh autogenous bone in the Figure) forms a compact hydrogel that facilitates bone graft application into the defect.

Magnetic mat for surgical instruments |
Magicmat is specifically designed to add practicality and ensure an aseptic environment in any surgical practice. It is a disposable device whose structure consists in a series of separated magnetic bars that have a high capacity to hold surgical instruments. The device can also be used when the tip of certain instruments should not be affected by the magnet, as its extremity can be positioned outside the magnetic field. In addition, this feature contributes to make its grab easier. The transparent double-sided tape allows Magicmat to be fitted to any rest base and any surgical clothing, so that sliding is prevented.

Minimally Invasive Device for removal of cortical
bone in surgical applications
|
Because of the compact blade and handle design, clinicians can access narrow areas
Micross has been designed to remove chips or scales of cortical bone.
Due to its unique shape, it can be used for many different surgical applications. Because of the compact blade and handle design (Ø 5mm) , clinicians can access narrow areas that are normally hard to reach with traditional, more invasive instruments. In addition, it can also be inserted in small tunnels made by the surgeon to avoid opening large areas in the tissues around the bone. The shape and size of the removed bone chips are ideal for most overgrafting procedures. In addition, Micross can be used to obtain bone shavings of suitable shape and size to fill up minor defects.

Bio-Oss® |
Autogeneous bone is irreplaceable in the treatment of large bony defects and is regarded
as the gold standard. However, bone regeneration using autologous bone alone has certain
limitations:
1. Restricted oral availability: Accessing the hip in an additional burden for the patient and
cost-intensive.
2. Accelerated resorption of autogenous cancellous bone compared to autogeneous cortical
bone:
• Less ability of implant anchorage in two step procedures when an augmentation is performed
with an autogenous cancellous bone alone.
• Short therapeutic time schedule: The optimum implantation time with autogenous cancellous
bone is after 2-3 months. The treatment time plan has to be followed meticulously, to prevent
resorption and to maintain the dimensional stability.
Such limitations of autogenous grafts can be countered by the addition of a slow-resorbing
bone substitute such as Bio-Oss® .
Numerous scientific studies have shown that Bio-Oss® is highly osteoconductive and integrates
into the bone remodelling process. Bio-Oss® has been clinically tested in over 90 universities
and has been scientifically documented in detail in over 350 publications over the last 15
years. Bio-Oss® has already been used in over one million patients worldwide.
Advantages of using Bio-Oss®
• The slow resorption of Bio-Oss® helps to preserve the volume of the bone / bone
substitute augmentation graft. This extends the therapeutic time scale and improves
the aesthetic outcome.
• Defects regenerated with Bio-Oss® show higher mineral density than local bone,
which aids stable anchorage of the implant.
• The combination of oral bone and a bone substitute can in some cases render it
unnecessary to access the hip, even in relatively extensive defects. Not infrequently,
this allows to avoid a more major and more cost-intensive procedure under general
anaesthesia to be avoided.

Bio-Gide® |
Large augmentations in the hard tissue are frequently associated in the hard tissue are frequently
associated with complications in the soft tissue management. Collagen membranes have a
positive influence on soft tissue healing and a tissue-friendly degradation.
• Natural collagen encourages wound healing
Bio-Gide® consists of highly purified type I and III porcine collagen (source animal: pig) and has
high biocompatibility. Good cell adhesion to the collagen membrane encourages wound healing.
Even if a wound dehiscence does occur, it generally heals without complications.
• Sufficiently long barrier function for undisturbed bone regeneration
Bio-Gide® provides a barrier function for 4 - 6 months and therefore allows undisturbed bone
regeneration. There is no need for a second procedure to remove the membrane because it is
resorbed. The breakdown occurs enzymatically and thus causes no irritation to the tissue from
acidification.
Advantages of combining bone grafts with Bio-Gide®
• Promotes soft tissue healing with its guide rail function and leads to high degree of
tissue compatibility.
• Mechanical protection and stabilization of the graft, reduction of micromovements.
• Additional protection for autogenous bone chips against resorption and therefore
optimization of the bone regeneration up to the coronal defect area.
• Prevents fibrous connective tissue from growing into the defect area and thereby
optimizes esthetic results.

Bio-Oss® Collagen |
Bio-Oss® Collagen consists of Bio-Oss spongiosa granules with an addition of 10% highly
purified porcine collagen.
The collagen supplement allows Bio-Oss® Collagen to be adapted particularly easily into
the defect. The cohesion of the particles is ensured, even without membrane. The collagen is
resorbed within 4 - 6 weeks, and has no barrier function.
Special properties of Bio-Oss® Collagen
• Simple application - the collagen fibres hold the spongiosa particles together
• Simple adaptation - after moistening the consistency becomes spongy
• Very good adhesion of the particles in the defect thanks to the collagen addition
• Usage without membrane is possible in smaller defects with favourable morphology
(four-walled defects)

Emdogain® and PrefGel™ |
• Emdogain® is a resorbable, implantable material consisting of enamel matrix proteins.
It is intended as an adjunct to periodontal surgery for topical application onto exposed root
surfaces. After a single gel application onto exposed root surfaces. After a single gel
application, Emdogain leaves only a resorbable protein matrix on the root surface. Two sizes
are available for the treatment of single or multiple defects.
• PrefGel™ is a pH neutral, 24% EDTA root surface conditioner, which offers an effective,
yet gentle removal of the “smear layer” during periodontal surgical procedures. In treatment
with Emdogain, eliminating the smear layer ensures that the enamel matrix proteins are
allowed to interact with and precipitate onto a clean root surface. This interaction forms the
foundation on which cells begin to renew a functional attachment.
• Emdogain® TS consists of two components - Emdogain and PerioGlas® (a synthetic alloplast
bone graft particulate) and is ideal for use in wider intrabony defects where additional tissue
support is desired. The combination of Emdogain and PerioGlas results in a formulation that
is easy to handle, does not migrate from the surgical site and adapts readily to the defect.
